A habit tracker on paper is hard to ignore: it sits on the fridge or the desk, and an empty box is right there. The catch is drawing a new grid every month. This guide covers what a printable habit tracker needs, then how to print one from your iPhone with Habit Cat, our habit list with one tick a day and a monthly chart to print.
What goes on a printable habit tracker
A good one is a simple grid you can read from across the room.
- One row per habit, with the name on the left. Keep names short so they fit.
- One column per day of the month, with the date and the weekday on top, so you can find today fast.
- A box in every cell to tick or fill in.
- A count at the end of each row, so you can see how many days you managed this month.
- Weekends marked, if your habits change on Saturdays and Sundays.
Set up your habits first
The chart prints the habits you have in the app, so add them before you print.
- In Habit Cat, tap Add a habit (or the + button on the Habits screen).
- Type a name, like the box's own example, Name, e.g. Read 20 pages.
- Under How often, pick Every day, or Days a week and the number of days.
- Tap Save. Repeat for each habit.
The chart lists habits in the same order as the Habits screen. To change it, tap the arrows button at the top of that screen (it shows once you have two or more habits) and drag them into place.
Print this month's chart
- On the Habits screen, tap the printer button at the top left.
- The menu has a section for this month and one for last month. Under this month, tap Print chart.
- Pick your printer in the iOS print screen and print.
You get a landscape page titled with the month, like "Habits · October 2026", with:
- every habit as a row, and a column for each day of the month, with the weekday letter over each date
- weekends shaded down the page, and today's date in bold
- filled boxes for days you've ticked in the app
- empty boxes for days up to today that aren't ticked, which are yours to tick on paper
- lighter blank boxes for days still to come
- a DONE column with how many days are ticked that month
- for a days-a-week habit, its target after the name, like "· 3/wk"
The page says how to read it in one line: "Filled: ticked in Habit Cat. Empty boxes are yours to tick on paper." At the bottom is a small "Habit Cat · page 1 of 1".
Share it as a PDF instead
No printer at home? In the same menu, tap Share chart as PDF. You get a file named for the month (like "Habits 2026-10.pdf") to send to yourself, save in Files, or print somewhere else.
Print last month's chart
On the 1st, this month's chart is mostly blank boxes. The menu's second section is last month, with its own Print chart and Share chart as PDF, so you can print the month you just finished, with every ticked day filled in.
Paper size and long lists
The chart prints on US Letter in the US, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala and Puerto Rico, and on A4 everywhere else, set by your iPhone's region. Up to 17 habits fit on a page. A longer list carries over onto more pages, each with the day header and its page number.
Paper and phone together
A tick on paper stays on paper: the app doesn't read your printout. If you tick days by hand and want them in your streaks, open the habit in the app and tap those days on its month calendar. You can tick any day up to today. Then print a fresh chart and the boxes come out filled.
Pro layouts: a week sheet and a year chart
Habit Cat Pro adds two more layouts to print or share as a PDF:
- Week sheet: every habit on a portrait page for this week, one column per day with big boxes. It's in the same printer menu, under This week.
- Year chart: one habit's whole year on one landscape page, a row per month and a count for each. Open the habit and tap the printer button on its page.
Without Pro, these show as Week sheet and Year chart with a Pro label, and the monthly chart stays free.
What it costs
The monthly chart is free to print or share, for this month or last month. So are as many habits as you like, every-day or days-a-week targets, reminders, streaks and ticking past days. There are no ads and no account. Your habits are kept on your phone and in your own backups, and leave only when you print, share or export them.
Habit Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase. It adds the week sheet and year chart, stats for each habit, notes on any day, an icon and colour for each habit, and a CSV export. More on the Habit Cat page.
Quick answers
Can I print a blank habit tracker?
Add your habits first; the printer menu stays greyed out until there's at least one. At the start of a month, the chart is almost all empty and blank boxes, ready to tick by hand.
Does it print on A4?
Yes, if your iPhone's region uses A4. In the US, Canada and a few other regions it prints on US Letter.
How many habits fit on one page?
Up to 17. More than that carries over onto extra pages, each with the day header and a page number.
Do I need Pro to print?
No. The monthly chart is free, always. Pro adds the week sheet and the year chart.
Is there a watermark?
No watermark across the chart. The only app name on the page is in the one-line note at the top and the small page number at the bottom.
