Short answers to the questions people ask most about Label Cat. More about the app is on the Label Cat page.

Is Label Cat free?

Yes. Every sheet layout and your own size, all the designs in the categories, the editor, printing, the PDF, lists from a paste, a CSV file or Contacts, starting on any label of a used sheet, the test page and My Labels are free, with no watermark: nothing is printed on your labels except what you put there. There are no ads, no trial, no sign-up and no account. Label Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase that adds three extras: three design packs (Seasonal, Wedding and Kids), QR codes and barcodes and saved address books.

How do I make labels?

On the home screen, pick what you're labeling, like pantry jars, spices, the freezer, moving boxes, address labels, gifts, weddings or small business, then pick a design. In the editor you can change the text, style, colours, icon, font and sheet at any time. In the Text tab, the first line is the main text; tap Add line for more. Using kraft or clear labels? In Colour, pick Monochrome and nothing is printed on the background. Text only shrinks if it wouldn't fit.

How do I find my label sheet?

In the editor's Sheet tab, tap Change and type the number on your pack, like 5160, 8163 or L7160. Many numbers share one layout: 5160, 8160 and 5260 are the same sheet, and each sheet in the list shows its other numbers. You can also browse by Letter, A4 or All. The templates use the label size, margins and spacing the manufacturer publishes. Another brand or size? Tap Custom sheet… and enter the label size, rows, columns and margins from the pack or the maker's template.

How do I print a different name or address on every label?

In the editor's Text tab, turn on Print many different labels. Then tap Paste, CSV file or Contacts. Put one label per line; for several lines on each label, like addresses, leave an empty line between labels. A CSV file with Name, Address, City, State and Zip columns is set out as addresses. Each label gets the next name or address, across as many sheets as you need. Contacts come through iOS's own picker, so only the people you pick reach the app, and Label Cat asks for no Contacts permission.

Can I use a sheet that's already partly used?

Yes, and it's free. On the Print screen, tap the first free label on the sheet: labels before it are skipped, and Start at label shows where printing starts. After you print, Label Cat remembers where the last sheet ended. To fill a whole sheet with one label, set Sheets; with a list, set Copies of each.

How do I print? My labels came out a little off.

Tap Print in the editor. Under Printer settings, the app shows the paper size to use: print at 100% ("Actual size"), turn off "Fit to page" or "Scale to fit", and choose a "Labels" paper type if your printer has one. Print a test on plain paper first and hold it against the label sheet; feed one sheet at a time if your printer has a manual feed slot. To print from a computer, tap Save or share PDF: the PDF is made at the exact sheet size, so print it at 100% too.

Printers differ. After your first print, the Print screen offers Labels a little off? Print the test page on plain paper, lay it on a label sheet and hold both against a window, read how far each crosshair is from the middle of its label, and enter the correction. It's saved on this device for that sheet, and every label is shifted by it when printing. Then print the test page again to check.

Does it work with a Bluetooth label printer?

No. Label Cat prints label sheets through iOS's own print dialog, to an AirPrint printer you pick, or makes a PDF you can print from a computer. It doesn't connect to Bluetooth printers.

What does Label Cat Pro add?

  • Three design packs, Seasonal, Wedding and Kids: more finished designs on the same sheets, under Design packs on the home screen.
  • QR codes and barcodes: in the editor's More tab, under QR code or barcode, type a link or text for a QR code, or a number or code for a barcode. Scan one printed label with your phone before you print a stack.
  • Saved address books: in the editor's list, tap Address books, give the list a name, like "Holiday cards", and tap Save this list. Next time, on any design, tap a book to add it to the end of the list. Saving under a name you already have updates that book.

Where are my labels kept? Do I need an account?

There's no account and no sign-up. Every change is saved as you type, and your designs are in My Labels. Press and hold a design there, or swipe it, to Duplicate or Delete it. Your lists and contacts are kept on your device and in your own backups unless you share, save or print them. There's no sync between devices.

Does it work offline?

Yes, for making labels. There's no account, and Label Cat makes no network request of its own. So you can make and edit labels and lists, pick contacts and make the PDF without a connection. Printing goes through AirPrint, so your printer has to be reachable. Sharing the PDF by email or to iCloud needs a connection. So does buying or restoring Pro, which goes through the App Store.

I bought Label Cat Pro. How do I get it on a new iPhone or iPad?

Open Label Cat, tap ⓘ on the home screen, then Label Cat Pro, then Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. When Pro is on, the row says "On".

Something else?

Tap ⓘ, then Report a problem or Suggest an idea, which opens an email to us. Or write to [email protected] from any email app.
