Short answers to the questions people ask most about Receipt Cat. More about the app is on the Receipt Cat page.
Do I have to pay to scan receipts or make a report?
No. Scanning, reading and the PDF and CSV expense reports are free, with no watermark, no subscription and no sign-up. Receipt Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase that adds three things to the report: mileage and per-diem lines (distance or days × your rate), branding (your colour and a line under the title), and one more total in a currency you choose, at rates you enter.
It read the wrong total, date or store. How do I fix it?
Open the receipt and tap the field: Merchant, Total (with its currency next to it), Date and Category are at the top, and Tax / VAT is further down. Then tap Looks right and it leaves "To check". If you tap Read Again under "Text on the receipt", the fields you changed are kept. If no total was found, the receipt says "Couldn't find the total. Type it below; everything else is saved.", and the button says Add a total first until you do.
The app closed while a receipt was being read. Is it lost?
No. Every scan is saved the moment you take it, before anything is read. If Receipt Cat was closed in the middle of a read, it starts that read again the next time you open it, and the receipt waits under "To check". You can also type the merchant, date or total yourself at any time. Looking for a receipt? Search at the top of Home looks through merchants, notes and the text printed on the receipt.
How do I add receipts, or more pages to one receipt?
On Home, tap Scan for a paper receipt, or Import and then From Photos (30 at a Time) or From Files (PDF or Image). You can also share a receipt to Receipt Cat from Mail or Photos. For a long receipt, open it and use Scan Another Page, Add Page from Photos or Add Page from Files. No receipt at all? Tap Import › Type It In (No Receipt). If an import says something like "2 of 3 photos imported", the others couldn't be opened: if they're in iCloud, wait for them to download and import them again.
How do I make an expense report or a spreadsheet?
On Home, tap Report at the top right (it shows once you have a receipt). Pick a range (this or last month, quarter or year, or Custom), then what to include: business, personal or all, reimbursable only, leave out reimbursed, categories, and project or client. Add a title, your name and company, turn on Attach receipt images if you want them in the PDF, and pick the paper size. Tap PDF Report to see it, with Print and Share at the top, or Spreadsheet (CSV) to share a file for your spreadsheet app. Your name and company can also be set once in Settings › On reports. Receipt Cat keeps your receipts and makes the report; it doesn't give tax or accounting advice.
Can it remind me before a warranty ends?
Yes. Open the receipt and pick a length under Warranty. The line under it shows the end date and when the reminder is set: 30 days before for a warranty of 3 months or more, 7 days for a shorter one. If it says "Reminders are off", turn on notifications for Receipt Cat in Settings. On Home, the Warranties filter lists every receipt with a warranty, the soonest to end first.
Where are my receipts? Do I need an account?
There's no account and no sign-in. Receipts are read on your device, and kept on it and in your own backups unless you share, save or print them. There's no sync between devices. To remove a receipt, open it and tap Delete Receipt, or swipe it on Home.
Does it work offline?
Yes. There's no account, and receipts are read on your device, so you can scan, read, sort and make reports without a connection. Importing photos that are only in iCloud needs one until they've downloaded, and so does buying or restoring Pro, which goes through the App Store.
I bought Receipt Cat Pro. How do I get it on a new iPhone?
Open Receipt Cat, tap the gear at the top left of Home, then Receipt Cat Pro, then Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. When Pro is on, the row says "Unlocked".
Something else?
Tap the gear › Report a problem or Suggest an idea, or email [email protected].
