Made for this: Sign Cat

Short answers to the questions people ask most about Sign Cat. More about the app is on the Sign Cat page.

Do I have to pay to sign or share a PDF?

No. Opening, filling, signing, saving and sharing are free, with no subscription, no trial, no ads, no watermark, no limit on documents and no account. Black and blue ink are free. Sign Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase for three extras: red, green and purple ink, turning a signature, initials or tick sideways, and putting your initials on every page of a contract in one tap.

How do I fill in a form and sign it?

Tap Open PDF, or use Share › Sign Cat in Mail or Files (paper? tap Scan). If the PDF has its own form fields, tap the blue fields to type in them or tick their boxes. For anything else, pick a tool at the bottom: Signature, Initials, Date, Text, Tick or Cross, then tap the page where it goes. The first time, Signature asks you to make one: draw it with your finger or Apple Pencil, type your name in a handwriting font, or take a photo of it on paper. Tap anything you placed to drag it, pinch or pull the corner to resize it, or change its ink, then tap the ✓ to finish. Made a mistake? Tap Undo at the top. When it's done, tap Save.

What kind of signature does Sign Cat make?

A simple electronic signature: an image of your signature on the PDF. It isn't a certified digital signature: there's no identity certificate. Some documents (for example notarised, court or certain government forms) need a certified or qualified signature; if a form asks for one, use the service it names. Whether a signed copy is accepted is up to whoever asked for it, so if in doubt, ask whoever sent the document. Sign Cat doesn't give legal advice.

Where is my signed copy? Did Sign Cat change my original?

Saving never changes your original: it makes a separate signed copy, and the "Signed. Ready to send." screen offers Share PDF, Save to Files and Print. Later, find it in the library: tap Signed above the documents, or search by name. Touch and hold a signed document for Share signed PDF, or Sign again with same layout to fill the same form again with your placements copied and the date moved to today. If you leave a document or close the app before tapping Save, what you placed is still there when you open it again. Deleting a document removes it and its signed copy from this device; files you already shared aren't affected.

How do I change or delete a saved signature?

Tap the signature button at the top right of the library to open My signatures. Tap New next to Signatures or Initials to make another one. To remove one, tap the trash on it and confirm: documents you already signed keep it, and unsaved placements that use it are left blank. If a photo of your signature says "Couldn't find ink in that photo", try a closer, brighter shot of dark ink on white paper.

Where are my documents? Do I need an account?

There's no account. Your documents are kept on your device and in your own backups unless you share, save or print them. Your signatures are kept on this device and out of backups; one leaves only inside a signed copy you share, save or print. There's no sync between devices.

Does it work offline?

Yes, for signing. There's no account, and your documents and signatures are on your device, so you can open a PDF that's already on your iPhone, fill it in, sign it and save it without a connection. Sending the signed copy by email or to iCloud Drive needs one. So does buying or restoring Pro, which goes through the App Store, and More from the Cat family in About, which asks Apple's App Store which Cat apps are available.

I bought Sign Cat Pro. How do I get it on a new iPhone?

Open Sign Cat, tap ⓘ at the top left of the library, tap Sign Cat Pro, then Restore purchase. You don't need to open a document first. Use the same Apple Account you bought it with. When Pro is on, the row says "Unlocked".

Something else?

Tap ⓘ › Report a problem or Suggest an idea, or email [email protected].
