Short answers to the questions people ask most about Hours Cat. New to it? Start with our guide on how to make a timesheet on iPhone.

Do I have to pay to keep my history? Is there a limit?

No. Clocking in and out, breaks, notes, your whole history, editing and Undo, one job with its rate and currency, and the PDF and CSV timesheet for any dates are free, with no limits on shifts or history, no watermark, no ads and no subscription. Weekly and monthly pay periods are free too. Hours Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase for extras: several jobs, overtime per job, pay every two weeks or twice a month with a pay stub, and your job's colour on the Lock Screen. More on the Hours Cat page.

Where are my shifts? Do I need to sign in?

There's no account and no sign-in. Your hours are kept on your device and in your own backups unless you share, save or print them. The Clock tab shows your shifts from the last 7 days; older ones are in the Timesheet tab.

Does it work offline?

Yes. There's no account, and the timesheet PDF and CSV are made on your device, so you can clock in and out, edit shifts and make a timesheet without a connection. Sending a timesheet needs whatever connection your mail or messages app needs, and buying or restoring Pro needs the App Store.

I forgot to clock out. How do I fix the shift?

If the shift is still running, touch and hold Stop, choose Stop at a different time…, and pick when you really stopped. When a shift has run a long time, the Clock tab also asks "Forgot to stop?" with a Fix button that opens the same picker. If you already stopped it, tap the shift in your list to change its start or end time, or to add a break. In More, Remind me if I forget to stop lets you choose after how many hours.

A shift I tracked is missing. Where did it go?

Hours Cat saves a shift the moment you tap Start, so closing the app doesn't lose it. Two things can make one look missing. A shift under a minute isn't kept: Hours Cat says "Under a minute, so it wasn't saved" when you stop it. And if you swipe a shift away by mistake, tap Undo in the message that appears right after. The Clock tab shows the last 7 days; older shifts are in the Timesheet tab.

I forgot to track a whole shift. Can I add it later?

Yes. Tap + at the top of the Clock tab and add the shift by hand: its times, breaks and job. Work the same shift every day? Swipe right on yesterday's shift and tap Repeat today to copy it, with its breaks and note, to today.

How do I send my boss a timesheet?

Open the Timesheet tab and tap Export. Pick this week, last week, this month, last month, or any dates with From and To. Add your name if you want it on the timesheet. Then tap Share PDF, choose Spreadsheet (CSV), or Print. The PDF lists the date, job, start, end, break and hours for every shift, the pay when you've set a rate, and has lines for your signature and an approver's. If you've just changed the dates, check the dates at the top of the PDF before you send.

How do I set rounding, overtime or an automatic break?

Open More › Rounding, overtime and breaks. They're all off unless you turn them on, so set them only if your employer uses them. In More you can also pick the day your week starts on, your pay period, and whether hours show as 7:45 or 7.75. Hours Cat does the sums; how your hours are paid is up to your employer and the rules where you work.

I bought Hours Cat Pro. How do I get it on a new iPhone?
