Made for this: Flyer Cat

Someone on your team had a great month: they covered extra shifts, sorted out a hard customer, or just made the place run better. A short, signed certificate is a simple way to say so in front of everyone, and it only takes a few minutes to make. This guide covers what goes on an employee of the month certificate, wording you can use, and how to make and print one with Flyer Cat, our flyer and certificate maker for iPhone.

What goes on an employee of the month certificate

Most have the same few parts:

  • A title. "Employee of the Month" is the classic. "Team Member of the Month" or "Star of the Month" work too.
  • A line above the name, like "This certificate is presented to" or "Congratulations to".
  • The person's name, spelled the way they spell it.
  • The month, so it means something on the wall a year later: "October 2026".
  • Why they earned it. One specific sentence beats a general one. "For training three new starters while running the morning shift" says more than "for hard work".
  • Who gives it: your business, store or department.
  • A signature, with the name and role of whoever signs, like the store manager or the owner. Some places have two.
  • A date, usually the day you hand it over.

Wording ideas for the reason line

  • "For going above and beyond for our customers in October"
  • "For keeping the kitchen running through our busiest month"
  • "For always being the first to help a teammate"
  • "For turning a tricky order into a happy regular", or anything else you saw them do yourself.

Keep it to one or two lines. The point is that everyone reading it knows what the person actually did.

Make it in Flyer Cat

Flyer Cat does several jobs: flyers and invitations, menus, and certificates. The first time you open it, it asks What are you making? Tap Certificates ("Awards for a class or a team: paste the names, print one for each."). The app remembers your choice. If it opens on another job, tap the grid button at the top left of that job's home screen to get back to the list.

  1. Start a certificate. Under Start a certificate, tap Your own. It starts with a blank title, "This certificate is presented to" above the name, and the Classic design. (If it's more of a thank-you, Thank you starts as a Certificate of Appreciation with "With thanks to".)
  2. Write the words. Under Words, type "Employee of the Month" in Title. That's the example the field itself suggests. Change Above the name if you like, and put your reason and the month in Under the name. A line you leave empty prints as nothing.
  3. Say who it's from and who signs. Under Signed and dated, type your business in From. Under Signature lines, pick None, One or Two. Add a name in Signed by (and Second signer for a second line) and a Role under each line if you like. The lines stay blank so you can sign by hand.
  4. Set the date. Print the date starts on with today's date. Change it or turn it off.
  5. Pick a design. Classic, Rosette, Modern and Stars are free, each in one of eight colours. Under Paper, pick Letter or A4. Certificates print landscape.
  6. Add the name. Type it under Names. Leave Names empty and the certificate prints with a line to write a name on by hand.

The preview at the top shows the certificate as it will print. Flyer Cat never fills in a name, a signer or a business for you: only what you type goes on the page.

Several awards on one night

Running a staff evening with a few awards, or one per location? Type one name per line under Names, or tap Paste to paste a list from Notes, an email or a spreadsheet column. You get one certificate per name, with the same words, signers and design, and you can flip through them in the preview.

With Flyer Cat Pro, you can give each person their own line: type it after a dash, like "Maya Chen - Best customer feedback", and it prints under that name only. Without Pro, the name still prints and the extra line is kept for later.

Tap Print & share at the bottom of the certificate.

  • Print opens your iPhone's print options. The app suggests picking thicker card stock there if your printer takes it. Card stock, around 65 to 110 lb (about 175 to 300 gsm), feels like an award and holds up in a frame.
  • Share PDF sends a PDF to email, your files or another app. That's handy if a print shop is doing the printing.
  • Share picture makes a picture of the certificate for Messages or email, or for your team chat.
  • Preview full size shows the PDF first.

Print one on plain paper first to check the spelling of the name, then print the real one. A simple frame or a clear sleeve makes it look finished for the presentation.

Next month in seconds

Employee of the month comes round every month, so you don't want to start over each time. On the Certificates home screen, tap ⋯ next to last month's certificate and choose Duplicate for a new list. The copy keeps the words, signers and design, gets today's date and has an empty list of names. Change the month and the reason, type the new name, and print.

When you start a fresh certificate instead, it begins with the same From, signers and paper as your most recent one, so you don't retype your business and your own name.

What it costs

Certificates for a whole list of names (up to 500 per certificate), four designs, signature lines, Print, the PDF and pictures cost nothing. There's no watermark, no sign-up, no account and no subscription. Flyer Cat Pro is an optional one-time purchase. For certificates it adds three more designs (Gilded, Heritage and Confetti), a line for each person, and your business logo at the top of every certificate. More on the Flyer Cat page.

Your certificates and lists of names are kept on your device and in your own backups unless you share, save or print them. In the app's own words, it prints certificates of recognition that you write and sign; a certificate made with it isn't a qualification or a licence.
